By creating an account or using SplitOwl, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
These terms form a binding agreement between you and the SplitOwl team. Using the app — including browsing, creating groups, or adding expenses — constitutes acceptance.
Description of service
SplitOwl helps you organise group expenses, calculate balances, and record settlements. We do not move money between users and we do not guarantee that entries reflect real-world agreements.
We are an expense-tracking tool, not a payment processor or bank. Any actual money transfers happen outside the app between the parties involved.
Your responsibilities
You agree to provide accurate information, keep your login factors secure, and use the app lawfully. You are responsible for all activity performed under your account.
- Provide accurate expense and profile information
- Keep your phone number and OTP codes secure
- Use SplitOwl only for lawful purposes
- Not harass or harm other group members
Accounts & authentication
Access is tied to your phone number and one-time codes. You are responsible for maintaining access to that number and for notifying us if you believe your account is compromised.
If you lose access to your phone number, account recovery may not be possible. We recommend keeping your profile updated with a secondary identifier if supported.
Expenses & generated data
All expenses, notes, and balances are user-generated content. SplitOwl does not verify transactions between you and other users. Disputes about real money are between the parties involved.
We are a tool to help you keep track — the accuracy of entries depends on what you and your group members record. We are not arbiters of financial disputes.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SplitOwl and its team are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app.

- Loss of data beyond what we reasonably control
- Third-party service outages affecting the app
- Indirect or consequential damages
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as we ship new features or comply with new requirements. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance.
We will note significant updates in the app when practical and provide advance notice for material changes. Previous versions are available on request.
